Surf, yoga, samba, oh my!

Beaching it up with yogis and Palawan locals: me, Monica Eleazar-Manzano, David Esteban, Carmen Esteban (on his shoulders), Dona Tumacder-Esteban, Susan Tupas

Last September, I had the privilege of spending a few days in lovely Puerto Princesa and finally meeting Monica Eleazar-Manzano. Currently she is a full time mom to Santi and a yoga teacher at Beyond Yoga. Back then, she lived in a beautiful modern bahay kubo in the middle of a vegetable garden about half an hour from Puerto Princesa city and organized detox and yoga retreats at Bahay Kalipay. I spent a Saturday with her and the family of my yoga teacher / friend Dona Tumacder-Esteban lounging and vegetarian-picnicking by Nagtabon beach. A lazy Saturday well spent, I have to say.

What's on the menu in a vegetarian beach picnic? Dayap-black bean salad, romaine, turmeric brown rice, and banana blossom burgers.

One of Monica’s pet projects is FLOW Surf, Yoga, Samba (Facebook here, Multiply here, Twitter here) and the event is coming up on the weekend of the 18th. I haven’t had the chance to attend this yet but I’ve heard a lot of good about it. Learning how to surf is definitely on my to-do list.

If you’re interested in doing something different next weekend or perhaps getting a crash course in surfing + yoga-ing + samba-ing, check it out! View the poster at the end of this post.

The Flow:SurfYogaSamba weekend retreat is a boutique three-day experience that will spark your spirit and leave your body and mind relaxed and revitalized. Learn Vinyasa Yoga and Yin Yoga with Monica Manzano, surf the waves with Luke Landrigan, dance to the samba beats of Escola de Samba de Manila, nourish your body with delicious gourmet meals and raw food snacks and witness the spectacle of Thai lantern lighting.

Package rate is P 8,750 which includes 1 Vinyasa Yoga lesson, 1 Yin Yoga lesson, 2 Surfing lessons, 2 Brazilian batuccada samba drumming lessons, round-trip private transfers from Manila-La Union-Manila, 3D/2N air-conditioned accommodations at San Juan Surf Resort, healthy gourmet meals and snacks, Flow shirt and a tote bag with freebies.

Some highlights of FLOW which makes it neat in my book:

Yoga / asanas by the beach.

Options for vegetarian and vegan meals will be available during the retreat.

A raw food introduction workshop will be conducted too.

Remember how I’ve been quite gaga over my greens? Rawlicious Super Green Smoothies and Juices (website here, Facebook here) is a sponsor. Rawlicious was at a neighboring table back in my Mercato Centrale days. Angela Lichauco, mistress of green smoothies, got me into this stuff.
